  Production Diary

15th October
Today we have filmed various clips that we may include in our trailer. This was mainly to get a good idea on what locations and settings we were going to use. We experimented on lighting, sound quality, camera shots and angles. This was so when filming in the future we know what will look and sound good and what shots look best for each scene and are most effective.

Personally I participated in filming a few shots and also acted in a few scenes. In addition to this I directed a few shots telling the others where to go and how to improve if something didn't look right. I chose what we should wear and our makeup. I chose for the characters to be in casual clothing as today we were just in a house with friends. This will allow the audience to see the relaxed approach of scene and the characters. Also I knew that this was only test shots so we didn't need to be in costume and makeup.

I filmed Aimee putting on makeup with a brush on her cheeks. I shot this many times so we could see what angles and lighting looked most appealing. I had a steady hand so it made the acting look realistic. I also shot Hannah putting on lipstick as a close up shot. I did this because as a group we decided at the beginning of our trailer we would have a series of different close ups of girls getting ready and putting on makeup. Another shot that I filmed was Elli putting on lipstick in the mirror. I filmed this in a mid shot. This will allow the audience to see her outfit but still focusing on her applying makeup. A further shot I filmed was of Elli with a lighter whilst saying wild - the name of our film. I again shot this many times so we could see the best lighting and camera shot. I shot this is a close up, extreme close and a mid shot. We thought this shot would be effective as Elli is the initial 'wild' character within our trailer which this shot represents successfully. The last shot I filmed today was of Aimee and Hannah sitting and drinking. I shot this from a higher angle to get different camera angles within our trailer to make it conventional. However this shot didn't look as professional as we hoped.

Today I also participated in the acting. An extreme close up of me applying mascara, a shot of me laughing and drinking, me putting on a necklace, a few shots of me, Hannah and Aimee on a bed talking, a shot of us running in a field, a shot of me in the car saying 'girls I don't think we should do this and lastly me, Hannah and Aimee at a table with Hannah's mum. These were all the shots I acted in, the others in my group filmed these shots more than once to get the most effective shot.
We only filmed test shots today to get a good idea of what we would use in our final trailer. We was able to find effective camera shots, locations and lighting that we could use for our final product.

1st November
Today we filmed at my house. I again participated in the filming and acting. I shot various shots of Elli putting on a mask. I chose to do this as a mid shot because I found this looked most effective. Elli is the 'bad' character in our trailer therefore a shot of her putting on a mask signifies rebellion and mystery which is what we are trying to portray. Another shot I filmed was of a mobile phone whilst receiving a phone call. I thought this prop would be suitable for our trailer as it signified the girls as being social and youthful. The last shot I filmed today was of the girls sitting on the bed. This was a quick camera shot that didn't look professional when I watched back. However, through experimenting is how we will find the best shots for our final trailer.
In addition to filming I acted in various shots today. There is a shot of me and Aimee blowing a bloon and laughing which is supposed to look as if we are doing laughing gas. We thought this would be effective as it shows we are turning wild. Drugs signify rebellion and crime which is successful for our genre. Another shot I was in was of me, Aimee and Elli coming into the house. I decided we should have an aerial shot because in my research I found this was conventional. Using a variety of shots also showed we are capable of effective filming and producing trailers. The others in my group also filmed me doing a shot. In my research I found  alcohol was conventional as it signifies youth and rebellion. The last shot I acted in was of me sitting and saying 'she's gone wild'. I thought using the wild would appeal to the audience as our film is called wild. This phrase will be catchy and people will remember it as it is the main storyline.
We decided to get audience feedback on all of our test shots to see if they were effective. This will make us aware of how to improve and what to enhance.

14th November
Today we was in school and recorded the voiceover for our trailer.  Whilst I was analysing existing trailers I found voiceovers were conventional therefore we decided to include one within ours.We looked at the script we created so we knew exactly what we was saying. If we thought something didn't sound right or someone else needed to say it we discussed and would change where needed. When recording I said "I thought she got arrested", "we're not like this though and she is" and "What are you doing?!". We recorded this dialogue more than once as we wanted to make sure it sounded effective and portray exactly what we wanted.

Nov 21st
Today we started editing our test shots. We did this to get an idea on what our final product would look like and if anything didn't look as effective as we hoped. Doing this means we can change or improve if its needed. We divided the editing on iMovie between the four (including me) of us in my group. We decided to edit 20 seconds each so we all got a fair share of the editing stage. I editing between 20-40seconds. This including the car scene, girls running in the field and girls chilling on the bed. In-between the shots I also including writing that read 'This-summer'. Writing in a trailer was another convention therefore I knew this would be appealing to the target audience. I faded the shots into each other so they looked more natural and flowed nicely. Whilst each of us were editing we sat together so we could all put our ideas forward. If a few of us didn't like something we would discuss and come to an agreement on what would be most conventional and successful.

Nov 25th
Today we filmed at Aimee's house. I was included in the filming and acting. Today we were filing for our actual trailer as we have already filmed drafts. Therefore we know what the best lighting, settings, costumes and camera shots are. The shots included the mugging scene - me and Hannah took turns in filming this scene. We filmed it more than once so we could get the best shot. We thought that we should do this with most of our shots because we want to get the most effective shots and doing this means we can pick the best one. We re-filmed some of our draft shots where we were getting ready and putting on makeup. I was acting and filming these shots. We will decide which ones looks best when editing and they will be in our trailer. I also acted within the mugging scene. At the end of this scene I pulled Elli away from her beating up an old lady whilst shouting "come on". In our film I am seen as the innocent/sensible character - this scene portrays that well. There is a shot of me, Hannah and Aimee laying on a bed. This shot represents us as innocent characters however throughout the trailer you realise they begin to turn rebellious and bad. Using this shot at the beginning of the trailer and then scenes of the girls partaking in crimes allows the audience to contrast the two behaviours.

Nov 27th
Today we filmed at Hannahs house. We again filmed various shots that we intend to use within our final product. Elli filmed a shot of me, Hannah and Amy on bikes. We did this multiple times in order to get the right shot and angles for our trailer. The bike signifies youth and freedom. This prop is effective as it represents the bad and good side of the characters. There was also a scene where me, Elli and Aimee look as if we are at a party with alcohol in our hand. We used a strobe light on a mobile phone in this scene to make it more realistic. This shows the girls turning into rebellious characters. In addition to these shots we also filmed a break in scene. I shot Aimee as she tried to break in to a house and Elli looking in through the window. This again shows the girls are turning bad. Also within this scene there is a close up shot of my hands as I open a draw and rummage through the persons belongings. We also re-shot the car scene that we previously done in our drafts. The last shot I filmed was of Hannah walking towards the camera whilst lifting her hood. To introduce the characters in our trailer we decided to have separate shots of the characters which we intend to use this for.

Nov 28th
Today we filmed at my house again. We only had two more scenes to shoot and then we were done filming for our trailer. The first scene was of me, Hannah and Aimee in the living room talking about Elli whilst I played with Aimee's hair which made it more realistic. In this scene I say 'she's gone wild'. The next scene we filmed was of me, Hannah and Aimee entering the house with heels and alcohol in our hands. I suggested we shoot this as an aerial shot so we could portray our filming capabilities. Today we also began to edit our trailer. We again split up the editing evenly so we all got a chance to improve each others work and put our ideas forward.

Fri 29th
Today we finished editing our final draft. We all took turns in editing our trailer. We decided to put in short clips and use fast paced editing. When analysing trailers I found this was conventional for a crime/thriller film. Therefore we know this editing technique will be successful within our trailer. We also added in voiceovers, we included these throughout out trailer. As a group an upbeat/tense non diegetic music was the best suggestion that we agreed on that should be played in our trailer. This signifies youth and activeness which are both conventions of crime/thriller films. I edited the first few shots together. These were of us getting ready and putting on our makeup. I made these clips short and fast and added a voiceover to introduce the story to the audience. I also edited the scene where we are sat in the living room and broke this scene up with other scenes. When me, Hannah or Aimee said something I put in another scene like the mugging scene, a shot of us running away and us partying in-between. This was so the audience could slightly understand what the girls were talking about. Also I found it was conventional to have the scenes not in chronological order therefore breaking this up will look more effective. In addition to this I edited in writing in between the getting ready scenes and the scene of us in the living room. This read 'This Summer'. I editing the scenes so they faded into each other so they flowed into each other more naturally. We all sat together whilst editing and put forward our ideas. This was so we could achieve the best trailer we could collectively. We finished editing today and our trailer was completed.

Test Footage

We have filmed various clips that we may consider for our final piece. This was so we could get a good idea of what we intend to use for our trailer relating to lighting, sound, camera angles and shot types.

Draft Trailer

We have put together some of our footage for our trailer to see if this works. This is just our first draft and isn't completed.

This is our first completed trailer.

ANCILLARY TASK: MAGAZINE COVER & POSTER

Drafts for my ancillary products -

Feedback
Heather - 'I don't really like the image, it looks a bit stretched. I do like the general layout of the magazine cover though.'
Aaron - 'The image is too close up, I think you should change the image. Also add the price and the date on the cover. I like the colour scheme and think it appeals to the target audience.'

Feedback -
Heather - 'I don't really like the font used on the poster and I think you should add more information at the bottom to make it more conventional. I like the colour scheme and the image used though.'

Aaron - 'I really like the image on the poster it suits the genre of film really well and targets both genders. I'm not keen on the fonts though, I don't think they represent the genre well.'

I have included more information and changed the fonts on the poster. This makes it more appealing to the target audience which I found out when asking them what they thought of my first draft.

Underneath I am experimenting with different fonts and images. I am trying to see what would appeal to my target audience most and which is most conventional.

Heather - 'I like the image best used in the middle magazine cover however I think you should use a lower key lighting. It is quite bright at the moment which could represent a different genre then what it is supposed to. I like that you have included the price, issue number and date on all of the magazine covers.'

Magazine Pictures

Poster Pictures

Heather - 'My favourite picture is the bottom one. It represents the genre best and I believe the target audience would be most appealed to it. The location is effective and the editing is done well. I also like the facial expressions on the girls as they look mysterious and quite eerie.'

FINAL ANCILLARY PRODUCTS

As you can see I have changed the magazine cover and poster to my drafts. This is because I implemented my target audiences comments into my products to make the products more appealing and conventional. For the magazine I have changed the image and edited it completely differently. I have chosen quite a low key lighting which represents the genre effectively as it signifies mystery. Also I have changed the fonts. I chose to do this to make my magazine cover more conventional. Another thing I added was a banner at the top of the cover that included titles of movies. When analysing similar existing products I found this was used quite a lot therefore I know it is attractive to my audience.
